The two, Sgt. Dustin DeMonte and Officer Alex Hamzy were killed in Hartford County on Wednesday, Oct. 12 in Bristol.

DeMonte has been promoted to Lieutenant and Hamzy has been promoted to Sergeant, said Lt. Robert Osborne, of the Bristol Police.

A promotion ceremony will be a part of their joint funeral service on Friday, Oct. 21, Osborne said.

The two officers were killed and 26-year-old Officer Alec Iurato was injured, when they responded to a possible domestic call in a residential neighborhood in Bristol, said the Connecticut State Police.

"Preliminary information appears to point to the 911 call being a deliberate act to lure law enforcement to the scene," state police said.

DeMonte, age 35, was a 10-year veteran, and Hamzy was an 8-year veteran of the department.

A Middletown native and a graduate of Central Connecticut State University, DeMonte's won several awards during his years on the force, including the Officer of the Year in 2018 and the Silver Star, the department said.

He leaves behind his pregnant wife, Laura, and two children, Phoebe and Porter, according to his obituary.

Hamzy, age 34, a Bristol native, graduated from Bristol Central High School. He also received recognition from the department, including helping to save a man in cardiac arrest in 2016, the department said.

He is survived by his wife, Katie, and his beloved dog Gizmo, according to his obituary.

A funeral service for both officers will be held at Rentschler Field in East Hartford at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. Guests should arrive no later than 9:30 a.m., officials said.

A wake for Hamzy is being held from noon to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19 at the Lyceum Banquet Hall in Terryville
